Abstract

Quality consistency is essential in mass production because recurring defects reduce acceptable output and require corrective action. This study analyzes quality defects in Nusa Bess products at PT. XYZ using Statistical Quality Control (SQC), focusing on defect identification, Pareto prioritization, and Fishbone cause analysis. Data were obtained through direct observation, interviews with quality-control staff, company documentation, and production records. The analysis covered defect data from January to June 2025. During this period, 555,216 units were produced and 42,860 units were rejected. Fifteen defect categories were identified, with surface defects, chipping, edge defects, holes, stains, clave cracks, and breakage forming the dominant group and representing a cumulative contribution of 78% in the Pareto analysis. Fishbone analysis identified five causal dimensions: man, machine, environment, material, and method. The documented causes included insufficient operator attention and SOP compliance, unstable oven temperature and machine conditions, high humidity and extreme weather, excessive material moisture or unsuitable material composition, and limitations in manual inspection. Based on these findings, quality improvement should prioritize operator training, stricter SOP implementation, machine maintenance and parameter control, routine briefings, and tighter incoming-material inspection. The study provides an empirical basis for directing quality-control improvements toward dominant defects and process factors.
