Abstract

Anxiety among third-trimester pregnant women approaching childbirth is an important psychological concern that may affect maternal well-being and the preparation process for delivery. Third-trimester ultrasound examination provides clinical information about maternal and fetal conditions and may also contribute to psychological reassurance by reducing uncertainty regarding pregnancy. This study aimed to determine the relationship between third-trimester ultrasound examination and maternal anxiety levels before delivery at Talang Jawa Community Health Center in 2025. A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed among all third-trimester pregnant women receiving antenatal care at the health center, with total sampling resulting in 45 respondents. Data were collected using a medical record observation sheet for ultrasound examination and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to assess maternal anxiety, followed by univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test. The results showed that 27 respondents (60.0%) underwent third-trimester ultrasound examination, while 18 (40.0%) did not. Regarding anxiety levels, 12 respondents (26.7%) experienced no anxiety, 18 (40.0%) mild anxiety, 11 (24.4%) moderate anxiety, and 4 (8.9%) severe anxiety. A statistically significant relationship was identified between ultrasound examination and maternal anxiety levels (p=0.011), with mothers who underwent ultrasound showing a higher proportion of no to mild anxiety. The findings support the integration of third-trimester ultrasound with supportive communication as part of comprehensive antenatal care.
