Abstract

This study described the implementation of finger-grip relaxation as a complementary nursing intervention for acute pain in post-cesarean mothers. A descriptive case study design involved five patients treated in the postpartum wards of Bendan Regional General Hospital, Pekalongan City, and Kajen Regional General Hospital. Finger-grip relaxation was administered once daily for approximately 15 minutes over three consecutive days alongside routine analgesic management. Pain intensity was assessed using the Numeric Rating Scale, while mobility, self-care ability, and wound condition were observed descriptively. Initial pain scores ranged from 5 to 7, with a mean of 6.2, and decreased to 1–4 by day three, with a mean of 2.6. All patients demonstrated improved mobility, while those with self-care deficits showed greater independence in daily activities. No clinical signs of postoperative wound infection were observed during the evaluation period. These findings indicate that finger-grip relaxation is feasible, simple, and potentially beneficial as an adjunct to multimodal post-cesarean pain management and recovery-focused nursing care. The intervention was well tolerated and may support patient comfort, willingness to mobilize, and participation in early postpartum functional recovery activities.
